HEALTH SCREENING

For adults, regular medical checkup should be done yearly. This is called health screening. The age to start is at 35 years. But if there is family history of any medical illness, then early health screening should be done.

The reason for doing so is for early detection of any illness, for example :

  • Hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Diabetic mellitus (increase in sugar level)
  • Renal disease (kidney disease)
  • Liver disease
  • Hyperlipidemia (increase cholesterol level)
  • Ischaemic heart disease (heart problems)
  • Hyperthyroidism or Hypothyroidism (if indicated)
  • Cervical cancer (for females)

The test that is carried out are :

  • Vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse pressure)
  • Renal profile (RP)
  • Liver profile (LFT)
  • Fasting blood sugar (FBS)
  • Urine Feme (full examination & microscopic examination)
  • ECG (electrocardiogram)
  • Thyroid function test (TFT), if indicated
  • PAP smear (for cervical cancer) - only for females that are sexually active

Remember :

PREVENTION IS BETTER THEN CURE
